Pools

(updated on 17 Oct 2021)

The 19th FINA World Masters Swimming Championships are being held in Japan on the island of Kyushu. The pool and open water competition will be held in the city of Fukuoka.

mywaterworld.life is now compiling, with the help of friends, a listing of pools, in a number of major Japanese cities, where you may be able to train. This listing will be progressively updated as more suitable facilities are identified. Following the table of Japanese pools, mywaterworld.life also presents a limited listing of pools by country and city.

As usual if there is a particular pool that you think is suitable for training in preparation for the FINA worlds, please contact us.

TAKE CARE: If you have any tattoos that can be seen, you will most probably not be able to use a public Japanese pool/bath/onsen unless you can cover it/them completely.

Pools by Country and City

Masters swimmers have often ask about pools to train at when travelling overseas.

SwimmersGuide is a great resource when you are looking for a pool. There are some limitations on the information provided but these are clearly set out in the “Important Notice” when you select a pool. It is important to actually check each pool website before visiting.

With thousands of pools around the world it would hardly be possible to provide any sort of comprehensive guide. Instead, the pools that are listed here are some of the ones that mywaterworld.life is familiar with.

A rating, based on personal experience, about how good the facility was to train is provided. The range is: 1 Poor, 2 Average/Mediocre & 3 Great but beware that those ratings are based on non-peak times.

If you have a particular pool you would like listed, please submit the details for consideration for publication by email.

When activating the links, use Google translate if the site is not multi-lingual.

Warning: Swimming attire requirements at some facilities may be quite specific including bans on wearing swimming shorts and Bermuda shorts while swimming. At some pools the use of paddles, masks and fins may be prohibited unless authorized by the head of the pool. Wearing a cap while swimming may be mandatory. Always check otherwise you may not be able to swim or will need to buy what you need at the site – often from a dispensing machine . It is advisable to also check how long your ticket entitles you to swim as some facilities charge by the minute after the initial time period. Some facilities offer age based discounts so take appropriate identification with you.
